This screen is used to select the interface to the focuser and to open or close the connection to the focuser.

Selecting the Interface: Select the drop down arrow to display the list of available interfaces. When using USB you will select the top option. Following are the RS-232 communication ports COM1 through COM15. The port you select will be saved in the registry so you should not need to select the interface each time you run the software. In the event that you need a COM port above 15 please contact Starizona and we should be able to accommodate your needs.
Connecting/Disconnecting: Once you have selected your USB or COM port press the button to open the link to the focuser. To close the connection to the focuser press the button.
Changing the Speed Delay: The Speed Delay determines how many seconds
the hand controller will move at the slow speed before it switches to
high speed. To
modify this value type the desired delay into the edit box and hit the
button. The
speed delay change should be reflected in the text below the button.
Changing
the Steps per Count: The
Steps per count determines how many steps the servo motor will move for
each count change on the hand controller display. This
allows you to increase the total travel that the focuser will move for
a given range of counts. Be
aware that increasing this value will reduce the resolution that the motor
can be driven. To
modify this value type the desired steps per count into the edit box and
hit the
button. The
steps per count change should be reflected in the text below the button.
Changing the Motor Speed: The
Motor Speed determines whether servo motor will run at normal speed or
high speed. To
modify this setting select the desired speed in the combo box and hit
the
button. The
motor speed change should be reflected in the text below the button.
Exiting the Application: Select the button or the close button on the menu bar to exit the application. If the focuser is being accessed from a client application then closing the software will only hide the application. The process will still remain active until all clients have released control.
Upgrading the Firmware in the Hand Controller: You can update the firmware in your hand controller using this feature. The hand controller must be placed in boot mode for programming. To program the new firmware first press the button. You will be presented with a file selection dialog. Select the file to be programmed and programming should begin automatically. Firmware files end with a ".bin" extension. If you have any problems programming the firmware you should always be able to cycle power and place the unit into boot mode and begin programming again.
Upgrading the Firmware in the Motor
Controller: You can update the firmware in your motor
controller using this feature. To program the new firmware first
press the
button. You will be presented with a file
selection dialog. Select the file to be programmed and programming
should begin automatically. Firmware files end with a ".bin"
extension. The display on the hand controller will begin counting
the number of packet transfers to the motor controller as a method to
provide feedback that programming is working properly.
